Training Groups
SHARKS
Athletes in the Sharks Group are typically seven to ten years of age. Sharks must be able to perform freestyle & backstroke legally & consistently, & can perform breaststroke & dolphin kick legally. Development of these skills & an understanding of basic training etiquette are the coaches' primary objective. The emphasis in this group is on fun, developing a love for swimming, and learning proper stroke techniques with a goal of preparing athletes to compete in USA Swimming competitions. Training sessions are offered four times per week. The attendance recommendation is two to three practices per week.
BRONZE
Athletes in the Bronze Group are typically eight to eleven years of age. Bronze Group swimmers must be able to perform all four strokes legally & consistently. The emphasis of this group is on stroke technique, interval training & pacing, & competitive development with a goal of preparing athletes to compete at the Junior Olympics, FLAGS, & Zone age group levels. Training sessions are offered five times per week. The attendance recommendation is three to four practices per week.
SILVER
Athletes in the Silver Group are typically eleven to fourteen years of age. The emphasis of this group is on overall technical development, & on increased training volume & intensity. Silver Group swimmers should be striving for "A" time standards or FLAGS qualifying times while preparing to compete at the Junior Olympics, FLAGS & Zones age group levels. Training sessions are offered seven times per week. The attendance recommendation is five to six practices per week.
GOLD
Athletes in the Gold Group are typically twelve to fourteen years of age. Gold Group swimmers should have at least two FLAGS qualifying times or be able to train at a commensurate level. Swimmers in this group will be preparing to compete at the Junior Olympics, FLAGS & Zones age group levels. Training sessions are offered eight times per week. The attendance recommendation is six to seven practices per week.
HIGH SCHOOL Conditioning
As swimmers advance into high school, some want to compete & succeed with their high school teams, but do not want to train at higher group levels. Thus, Blue Wave offers the High School conditioning group for athletes that are passionate about swimming, but desire a reduced commitment. The goal of this group is to prepare athletes to compete with their high school programs. Training sessions are offered nine to ten practices per week. The attendance recommendation is five to six practices per week. This is a seasonal training group: Jan - July.
SENIOR
Athletes in the Senior Group are typically fifteen to eighteen years of age. Swimmers in this group MUST participate in USA Swimming competitions year round. The emphasis of the Senior Group is on refinement of stroke techniques, racing skills, high levels of training intensity, & dry land training while preparing to compete at the Senior Championship & Sectionals levels. Training sessions are offered nine to ten practices per week. The attendance recommendation is six plus practices per week.
NATIONAL
Athletes in the National Group must have achieved two Sectional qualifying times or have the ability to train at a level commensurate with at National-Level swimmer. Swimmers must display, through training & competition, the desire & discipline to compete at the highest levels of performance. Swimmers in this group represent Blue Wave at National level competitions with the goal of reaching Futures, Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals, & Olympic Trial time standards. National group swimmers are expected to develop seasonal competition plans which should include competing at the highest level meets that the athlete qualifies for. Training sessions are offered nine to ten practices per week. The attendance requirement for this group is no more than one unexcused practice per month.
